Friday night October 31 was Halloween night so MAAVS celebrated in violet style
with a come as your favorite violet costume party. There were some very
ingenious interpretations of violets as well as some creative costume designs.
AVSA president Janet Riemer came as "Wintry Rose" while MAAVS president Ken
Barbi dressed as "Vampires Kiss". A few people took poetic license and produced
very liberal interpretations of what come as your favorite violet meant.
MAAVS spared no expense with prizes for costumes. One of the prize winners was
Jennifer Cameron who came as Bluebird Greenhouse complete with plastic dome over
her head with a stuffed Bluebird perched on top. The festivity was capped off by
an innovative round of Violet Bingo invented by Sylvia Blanchard who, by the
way, came as a Goldfish plant complete with fishbowl hat!!! She was a grand
prize winner for most outrageous. The other costume prize went to Carol Hamelink
as Rebel's Splatter Kake. It was a special weekend for Carol as all of MAAVS
sang Happy Birthday to her at the Nov 1 Awards banquet for her birthday which
was the next day.
