MAAVS Rosette Collection Award Instruction Sheet

MAAVS Founded March 9, 1991

The following instructions are for your use in including a MAAVS Collection Class in your schedule, and during entries to determine who is eligible to enter MAAVS Collections. It has been updated to include the new AVSA judging standards for Species.  (Here is the  MAAVS Rosette Collection Score Sheet  in pdf format. The same link is also located at the bottom of this page).

WHAT IS THE MAAVS ROSETTE?

A MAAVS Collection Rosette is provided by the Mid-Atlantic African Violet Society (MAAVS) to clubs affiliated with MAAVS, for an exhibit consisting of three African violets of the same type (standard, miniature, semiminiature, trailer [standard, miniature, or semiminiature], or species). The exhibitor must be a member of MAAVS, but need not be a member of any other national or regional association. The plants need not be AVSA-registered varieties, but must score at least 90 points when point scored using the AVSA Handbook for African Violet Growers, Exhibitors, and Judges. This rosette alone costs $5.00. Point Score Sheets are free.

IN THE SCHEDULE

Include the following in your show schedule class description: "Mid-Atlantic African Violet Society collections of three (3) different, named varieties, all of the same type. Need not be AVSA registered. Open only to members of MAAVS." If you use shorter class descriptions, split the above into sections for the class descriptions and rules, respectively. In the class descriptions include, "MAAVS Collections." In the rules include, "The Mid-Atlantic African Violet Society Collection is an exhibit consisting of three African violets of the same type (standard, miniature, semiminiature, trailer [standard, miniature, or semiminiature], or species). The exhibitor must be a member of MAAVS, but need not be a member of any other national or regional association. The plants need not be AVSA-registered varieties, but must score at least 90 points when point scored using the AVSA Handbook for African Violet Growers, Exhibitors, and Judges."

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Exhibitors must be members of MAAVS and include their MAAVS member number on the Score Sheet.
  2. Collections will be MERIT judged by AVSA Judges using the AVSA Scale of Points (Each plant is judged on its own merits, rather than in competition with another plant or exhibit.) The authority for judging shall be the AVSA Handbook for African Violet Growers, Exhibitors, and Judges, 1998 edition, and subsequent changes printed in the African Violet Magazine. The decisions of the judges shall be final.
  3. Each plant in a collection must score at least 90 points (making it a blue ribbon plant).
  4. Use the attached Score Sheets or those printed by the AVSA Entries Program.
  5. Please return the completed MAAVS Collection Award Point Score Sheets so winners will appear in The MAAVS MEMO.
